18 DEC 04 AMELIA VIRGINIA

We travelled out to visit friends and family
We pass these landmarks ALL the time

Today we stopped
Today we chose to remember and tried to imagine

It boggles the mind

I've followed that path to Appomattox. While there is no glory in war, I find the Civil War to be a fascinating subject. If you get really hooked, read Shelby Foote's 3 vol series. (That will keep you out of trouble all winter. ;0 )

There is no real glory in war. Especially wars of that time. Marching, waiting, little food, blood and dismemberment, for many even death. And yet, the gentlemanly character of Mr. Lee, and the gallantry of the Army of Virginia deserves the respect and admiration of every American. It was a long time ago, but sometimes even today on the battle fields of the war, the cold ghosts of honorable men walk with you.
