10-30-Stolzenfels, Kapellen

Build 1242-59 by Archbishop Arnold II of Trier to impose his illegal tolls on
passing traffic. Castle was destroyed by the French 1688/89 and passed 1802 to the
city council of Koblenz. City of Koblenz gave the castle as a present to Crown Prince
Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia 1823. Under his ownership the castle was rebuild in
a Neo-Gothic style by Carl Friedrich Schinkel and Johann Claudius von Lassaulx.


Castle served since as a royal guest house. Most notably,
1845 Queen Victoria of Britain stayed in this castle.
