06-19-Former Sears Tower, 1,450′, 1,729′ to tip

Sears is not doing well, and they gave up the building. Although Sears sold the Tower in 1994 and had
completely vacated it by 1995, the company retained the naming rights to the building through 2003.
The City renamed it to "Willis Tower," however the name rights are valid for 15 years only and
later the tower might be renamed again. To the people this is a Sears Tower still and forever.

At completion in 1973, it surpassed the World Trade Center towers in New York to become the tallest building
in the world,
a title it held for nearly 25 years and remained the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere
