Up Close to a Lioness

Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Photo taken on the 5th Oct 2004 in the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Canon 300D with a Sigma 100-300 lens. There were 3 large males and three females. They had just finished eating a large buffalo and they had moved to lake Magadi for a drink. I submitted the photo from Arusha (bad connection), sorry about the lack of title and info. I have taken around 900 photos on the trip to Tanzania, I'll try and post something on dpreview for you folks. Hassan

This female lioness was in a group of 3 other females and 3 large males. They had just finished eating a Buffalo, and moved from the kill to drink water at Lake Magadi. I positioned myself as low as possible for this shot and made a short wistle, she looked up and I snapped her.

Well, I sure wouldn't want to be this close! But very nice closeup, and you surely managed to capture a great expression on his face! Helen
