The beaver colony that dammed a small stream is long gone, leaving behind a series of small ponds with dead or dying trees around their edges. The work of beavers, undertaken to ensure their own survival, initiates a number of changes in the surrounding area and provides habitat for many types of aquatic species. (I should mention that it also offers some wonderful photographic opportunities.)
