The Brandywine Valley, where Hagley is located, was one of the centers of the industrial revolution in the USA. Along with industries like the gunpowder mills there also developed necessary support industies like manufacturing of machine tools and related equipment. R.H. Barr was obviously a machine tool manufacturer in Wilmington in the late nineteenth century. The company no longer exists and I have not been able to find out anything more about it.
