Wanda07_01_04e.jpg

June 30th photo concept was Wanda's. Today, July 1st, was mine. It was a full moon and I checked the sunrise sunset chart( http://www.sunrisesunset.com/usa/ ) and knew that I would have the full moon visible during the twilight hour. I want something other worldly. What better place than the Bonneville Salt Flats. So we loaded the camera and lighting gear and headed out this afternoon. Round trip it is about 350 miles. One minor worry was the clouds. We got lucky.

Dang, how lucky can you be to have two moons out at one time!
Seriously, great image. You planned it perfectly. Just awesome.

It's hard to believe that this is actually a photograph. It is so perfect I actually thought it might be a computer generated version.
It's PERFECT, Bravo Bill and Wanda

Hi Bill, Hi Wanda,
I often follow your day to day job from Paris, FRANCE. Great team you two !!
I came here after reading the Pbase magazine. I always thought that this pic was made at home with PS. I have just discovered that it was a "real" pic. Congratulations.

Amazing shot! A classic in every way!
There's no way this woman's a grandmother, is there? ;-)

wonderful shot. What a rear, what a body, what a photographer! This idea and execution of it... sublime.

It took Bill a longgggggg time to talk Me into doing this pose. He had been talking about doing this shot before we even began the PAD project. He had this image in his mind and just wouldn't let it go! It took all the arm twisting he could to get Me to finally agree. I was real nervous about being half naked in an area where there isn't so much as a small bush to hide behind if someone else should show up. But Bill pointed out to Me that because of the lack of cover we would be able to see anyone coming long before they were close enough to determine the state of undress I was in. I looked far off in the distance where the traffic was marching by like tiny little ants and figured if I couldn't really see the drivers they couldn't really see Me. So I finally relaxed and went for it!

OH! I almost forgot to mention the hord of flies that surrounded our car as we parked. I remember thinking "oh no! I don't have any insect repellent and these nasty little fellas look like the kind that might be biting flies!" They were just awful looking and everywhere! They were covering the windshield before we even exited the car. I remember thinking how miserable this shoot was going to be and how I would surely be going home covered in itchy little welts from their nasty little bites. But it turned out the flies weren't even interested in human flesh. They spent all their time clinging to the car, which I thought was weird but I was greatly relieved.

The other thing I remember about this shoot is that the temperature and humidity was perfect! The air around Me was perfectly still, not even a hint of a breeze! I felt like I was wrapped in an invisible, soft, warm, fluffy blanket.

I Do believe this image turned out to be one of Bills best and raised the bar on our project. It's not often that we come up with another image to rival this one!

excellent shot, great concept! you guys do take it seriously (350 miles for a photo :-))
Guest 06-Dec-2004 13:15
This is really beautifull. So diffrent as as you say, other worldly. Very nice concept. Your photos of Wanda are really nice.
Guest 18-Oct-2004 20:44
Great shot but leave it to a geek like me to note this has to be a composite shot. There's no way to get an image of the moon that size at 75mm as your exif data states. Also, being an astronomy buff, the FULL moon is never that high above the horizon while still that much sunlight.
Oh, almost forgot, Wanda - HOLY COW! - she's incredible.

This is worth every single minute and every single mile of you effort - great idea and excellent results !
Guest 30-Jul-2004 14:44
I really cannot believe how beautiful this woman is.
Max 22-Jul-2004 02:35
Very appealing shot, but I can't shake the feeling that she's teetering. I think it's the asymmetrical position of her hands, combined with the crossed legs. Still, she's perfect, her hair is perfect, her outfit is perfect (just big enough to fit into an Altoids tin), the lighting is perfect, the perfect is perfect. And even with the very slightly unbalanced pose, what man would object to that tiny little spot of light she creates by crossing her legs!
Guest 10-Jul-2004 13:00
A stunning collection, but this one has that bit extra for me, lighting, pose, composition, backdrop all superb. You two are a real inspiration :).
Guest 10-Jul-2004 07:21
Great graphic and lighting. Great job
Guest 07-Jul-2004 14:34
WOW! That is incredible. You and Wanda make one great team!
Guest 06-Jul-2004 11:24
Great shot, but the crossed legs don't work for me. Glenda
Guest 04-Jul-2004 20:40
Simply fantastic.
Willa Dios04-Jul-2004 04:59
This is stunning. Geesh! Bill, they just keep getting better and better! Wanda, you go, girl!
Guest 03-Jul-2004 10:40
I prefer a naked look or with a white dress. it is better than wearing the black panties. But anyways, it turns out cool.
Guest 03-Jul-2004 06:40
This turned out really cool!
Guest 03-Jul-2004 03:28
Excellent capture Bill. One of your best!
Wasn't the moon great this morning? On my way to work in the wee hours of the morning it was reflecting off of Willard Bay and I sure wish I had my camera with me, it was beautiful.

Great Shot and Happy Clicking,
Shaner

Very nice, looks like a moon Goddess. Wonderful lighting, pose, and clouds - very surreal and mythical.
Karthik Raja02-Jul-2004 14:57
Awesome. A travel that was truly worth it.
Brian 02-Jul-2004 14:10
Nice photo as usual. But the panties are distracting to me. I thini either an elegant dress or a completely nude:-) pose would fit the ambience better.
Quiyam 02-Jul-2004 13:49

Your best yet, and that's really saying something. You are a seriously talented photographer Mr Bates. I am so envious (in a nice way); a great artist, a gorgeous wife who actually likes to pose for him! All that I get off mine is a 'tut' and a dirty look. Oh well, such is life.

Keep up the good work, you brighten my day.
CJ Morgan02-Jul-2004 09:59
Oh, good one. Nice job to the both of you. I really like this one.
Jude Marion02-Jul-2004 09:55
Beautiful. I think this is your best, Wm.!
