Schoenberg: Transfigured Night

Intermission

Beethoven Symphony No.9 in D minor

The picture was taken much early before the concert began. The podium is empty, the seats are quiet. Everyone knows it will be a night which one will memorize forever.

Schiller's Ode should be presented to the great conductor, who has been in Pittsburgh for the past six years.

Joy, Lovely divine spark,
Daughter of Elysium,
With fiery rapture,
We approach your sancturay!
Your magic reunites,
what stern custom sepereated;
All men shall be brothers,
Under your gentl wings.
