Camera is set up on a tripod. Different images are made... some with flash, some with a flashlight,
some with both. Furniture is "painted" by using the flashlight. Main subject is lit by a handheld flash (warning: triggering off your flash 2 feet away from your face while you're in a dark room is harsh on the eyes, to say the least). Background outside scene is lit by the outside ambient lights. Afterward, parts from these different images are complied in Photoshop to make one final image (having shot the images on a tripod makes it possible later to easily line them up in a registered manner).
