Australian Copperheads are not related to the Copperhead of the USA in any way, apart from being a snake. They are more
closely related to the Cobras of Africa, having short, fixed fangs and venom that primarily affects the nervous system. These
snakes, like most snakes are generally shy and inoffensive creatures, and would prefer to run away and hide to confronting
something as dangerous as some skinny guy with camera. Nonetheless, if left with no choice they will stand (as much as a snake
can stand) and fight. They are a dangerous snake, but only if they bite you.
These snakes live in the cooler, moister habitats in south east Australia and feed mainly on frogs and lizards, although they will
eat other snakes.
