Besides the beautiful house and the revelations on how Mr., Ron Burkle gets his money does anyone know if he is into philanthrophy ie donating grants for education, deserving causes etc? If so it is one of those big official fronts where they filter or is it more informal and compasionate. What's the status. Hey was from old money, inherited some or stayed with little and made big? Just interested.
Thanks.

The house is owned by Mr. Ron Burkle. He is a wizard in the secretive world of high finance. He wields great power on CALPERS, which is California's largest pension fund. He has built his $2.3 billion dollar fortune on OPM, which for those of you who do not know stands for Other Peoples Money. CALPERS is his personal piggy bank and the common man has no idea that his YUCAIPA Companies use his pension funds and thousands of others who are in CALPERS to make him richer. It is nice to line the pockets of the CALPERS board members as Mr. Burkle does to make sure the pension dollars keep flowing to him. We could all learn from this smart and unique individual how to do business!!!

Harry Eberlin purchased the property in the early 1990s.

Does anyone know what years that Harry Eberlin owned this house?

This used to be the Gergosian mansion. It orignally had a huge copper roof and glass all around. The pool was in the courtyard instead of in the rear. Earl Gergsoian was CEO of Royale Inns which went bankrupt in the middle 70's. The orignal house is gone except for the tennis court.

Listen guys , I was there this saturday with my friend Seva Katkov, we were going to Blacks Beach, and i was too curious not to get a good look at this house. We were stopped right at the gate by a security officer, who didn;t introduce himself and was rude, suggested that we leave the premisses of that mansion or get arrested for tresspasing. I started asking who lived in this mansion, but all i heard was confidential info, and suddenly out of nowhere this limo pulls up and who do we see ------------Michael Jackson. I was stuck at my place. and he moonwalked to the mansion... all we saw was his shadow. The mansion features many hidden cameras, so all our questions werent answered by security, i was really curious who this house belonged to, and was searching the internet until i found this site. But anyway just wanted to share my story, we were off to blacks beach looking at all the rich pennises and opur memories of living large inside these mansion were crushed one by one.

He owns a lot of things...and the house is actually almost 50,000 Square Feet. No Subterranean Garage. What was originally designed as a garage was changed into a game room with movie theatre, bowling alley, video arcade, etc.

How did you get to take this picture? When did Ron Burkle buy this house? How old is he? does he have any kids?

Hi,

Mr. Burkle might own a movie studio, as he has lots of friends in the entertainment industry (he holds a major stake in P. Diddy's clothing line Sean John), but I believe the drug lord thing is a rumor.

Also, this house, which is about 26,700 square feet on 5.5 acres, was sold in 1999 for about $16 million (probably because it was far from being finished), which still set a record that year. This record was broken just next year by the sale of Tippett Hall, a historic oceanfront estate in Del Mar, which sold for $25 million, and is still the most expensive house sold in San Diego County.

The house that was on sale for $41 million a couple years ago is actually Villa Di Capri http://www.forbes.com/2002/11/08/cz_sl_1108feat.html), another estate (address number 9776 vs. no address number displayed in front of Mr. Burkle's home) on the same street owned by David Dunn, chairman of Iomega Corporation, and is still on the market for $29 million. In my honest opinion (I'm not a real estate agent, I just have a good taste for beautiful architecture), Mr. Burkle's oceanfront estate is the most spectacular livable house I've ever seen, and is worth about $30 million today, whereas Mr. Dunn's estate is currently worth about $20 million.

As to how so many people know all this information, is partly because all this information is available on the Internet, this house is San Diego's most famous house, the Chancellor of UCSD lives next door, Wacko Jacko caused lots of recent media attention, and again, because this house is the most spectacular house that probably anyone's ever seen. ;)

As a close person to the owner of this home...I am curious as to how you know all this information.

The La Jolla house, the largest single-family home ever built with a steel frame, has five family bedrooms, four guest suites, a maid's apartment and a caretaker's house. It also has a tennis court, wine cellar, billiard and video rooms, a gym and an 8,000-square-foot 30-car subterranean garage.

It was originally owned by Harry Eberlin, founder of the nationwide Super Shops Automotive Performance Centers. But he did not finish it and sold it to Ron Burkle, the owner of Ralphs, Food4Less etc...

I've heard various rumors in my 3 years at UCSD: the owner of Ralph's, the owner of Safeway, the Albertson family, a movie studio, a drug lord. I believe that the house was for sale for something like $42 million during my first year which was 01-02. What I'm looking for is any kind of information relating to this subject. Hard evidence would be awesome.

Is anyone else interested in this?
