This picture was taken in 9-86, and it's hard to believe, but anyone could walk up to, into, and all around the terminal without being questioned. I even took the elevator to the roof.
I can remember many times leaving out of the terminal to take the train to NYC. Dad worked as Open Top Inspector for New York Central and then Conrail. Grandpa Mc worked also on NYC. My Grandpa George Carpenter was Head Steward for NYC. Later on when I was in my teens, my BFF Michael and I would head down to NYC for a weekend of fun and laughs. And the best memory was getting to Grand Central with Mom and while she was waiting for the luggage, my brother and I took off and rode the escalator in the grand hall. Mom had a fit. We still had to catch a train and get over to Penn Station to travel down the coast to Maryland. What fun were the trains!

When I was a kid my Grandmother lived on Curtis St. and my Dad would take us for walks to the Terminal to get candy. Later, when I was going out with my now husband, we would go for a walk in the evenings to get a paper and some hot chocolate. Later the restrauant closed so it was just a walk for the paper.. We would walk around the building and steal a kiss in the empty corridors. Even later, when Mom was in her apartment in Stadnitski Gardens, I loved looking out her window at the terminal with Corpus Christi's steeples in the foreground. I have some great memories of that place.. Wish they could find the funding to so something great with it. Ev
