Shadow of Time, Cappodocia, Turkey, 1999.

This old Turkish caravan stop at first appeared to be just another ruin, but when I noticed an assertive shadow of a tourist momentarily imprinted upon its vast façade, I created a photograph based on the interplay of light, shadow, and structure. The shadowy figure at the summit of a neighboring building represents the authority of man, but it is impermanent, and will soon vanish. These old buildings, however, have stood the test of time and history -- they will remain long after we pass from the scene.

Vanessa, you can make sky like that, too. Just darken and saturate with Photoshop. Of course, the clouds exploding within it makes this sky more than just a deep blue background. They seem to burst out of the ancient caravan stop itself, adding additional context to the point I was trying to make with this picture.

Excellent shot, Phil. Great way to turn what would have been a snap shot into art. What a beautiful sky!

Rainer, I love shadows that hide things. And you do, to!

Phil you certainly ain't surprised if I say that I love the exposure in this photograph. A shame that the shadow hides totally whats going on behind that door. Really great image, though

Without the shadow, we've seen that photo. Combined, it is a unique image. Perfect !
