And, if I remenber correctly, the banding came from some liberal amouts of added saturation. Glad it moved you!

It was in early morning light. I used Photoshop for the effect, I thik it was Filter/Artistic/Plastic something or other.

Very dramatic shot. I guess that's the sun behind the plane. How did you get the texture and banding?
