The photo quality is lacking (lots of noise), but I wanted to display the hummer with his tongue extended. When he is resting on the perch, he repeatedly ejects his long tongue, possibly for cleaning. The tongue is inserted into the feeder, where the sugar solution sticks to the tongue and then into the mouth. Sugar nectar is important to the hummers to create energy for the hummers to hunt for small insects spiders.
