What Alan says is correct...had the entire front of our car wiped out once. Best advice is they are often on the move from dusk to daylight and they come out of nowhere without warning.

If you ever encounter a big red up close and personal, you'll KNOW what a big 'roo is. If your radiator hits one at 80km/h, you'll REALLY know.
OK, I grant you they're not 86km long INDIVIDUALLY, so maybe not THAT big, but you can fit a LOT of them into an 86km stretch. Unfortunately it takes only one to reboot your trip in a less than optimal fashion.
