The start to another year of Picture a Day.
I have been doing this since 2004, although somewhere along the line my early pictures and galleries got deleted.

It is traditional in Japan to visit the shrine early on New Year's Day.
People pray, make wishes, take a moment to think about loved ones.
The line to pray is often very long. We waited about 30 minutes.
