challenge

Watrous, North Dakota

even before leaving home thought of the vast, flat agricultural lands of the Mid-west, and how to capture an interesting image of them...once there, the challenge seemed insurmountable, particularly as in early June crops were still quite short...in the end concluded that a good way to portray the level landscape was to set it off against some distinctive feature, which in most cases turned out to be grain elevators

That idea worked very well here for sure. Raw, uncluttered land is definitely challenging to get an interesting image of. ~BV~

I'd say you turned lemons into lemonade with this shot. I really like the subject and the otherwise flat, empty landscape really adds to the mood.

A good conclusion David. Plus you were with the Vatorman, so completely logical.
Helen Betts22-Jul-2018 20:55
I think grain elevators are interesting structures, and they do set off the rural landscape well.

That is a challenge and it could way most people call it fly over country! I find it interesting but only for just so long! Love the blue sky and white puffy clouds.
