The family portrait of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia
This portrait was said to be made in 1914. In about three tumultuous years, this beautiful family would be swiftly falling into the pages of history. Alexi, the heir to the throne and a tragic hemophiliac, was not given over twenty years of age with his frail condition. On the night they were murdered, he was carried into the basement room in the arms of Nicholas.
During my digital work on this project, I must admit that I fell in love with this beautiful family. I so wish the girls, the Empress and Alexi could have gotten away to Britain, but fate had the journey already laid out before them. After this murderous scene, Lenin had all of the members of the connecting family murdered. Ironically, Nicholas mother did manage to escape to Britain.
This is a digitally colored image from a black and white photo that is readily available on the net. In my research, this is how I imagined the live color version would have looked.
