Terminal Moraines

Greenland

Flying way up north (close to the Arctic Circle) across Baffin Island on my way home from a business trip in Germany.
A terminal moraine is the pile of debris left at the end of a glacier that had been pushed along by the ice. Here, we see
(from approximately 35,000 feet) the terminal moraines from three glaciers feeding into a valley. Cool stuff (literally)!

Fascinating view. Very nice detail.
Seeing you were in Germany, in German it's called Moräne.

The North shore of Long Island, NY is on the detritus of a moraine. It is rocky, hilly and has different plant life than the relatively close, sandy South shore.
This is a very interesting image from such a height.

Excellent. The ones near me are 12,000 years old from the last glacial maximum.

Wow! That IS a sight to behold! Amazing how detailed you got this from a 105mm lens. The shapes in your composition are intriguing! Nicely done, Sam!
