Melanerpes erythrocephalus
This weekend I had the opportunity to do some birding around the Big Thicket and during the visit we had a chance to photograph a pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers. I am often asked by new birders why the more common (in our area at least) Red-bellied Woodpecker isn't called the Red-headed Woodpecker. I tell them to take a look at this guy and they will understand.
