Shelduck with ducklings

Waldringfield nature resterve

The other parent was there too, but Shelducks seem to react differently to some species; instead of shepherding the little ones into cover, they disperse over a wide area. Seems effective, all 11 doing well & last year I think I saw a clutch of 12, but in too poor light for photography

Your shelduck is boldly marked and striking.

There's nothing cuter than a duck with ducklings.
Ken Chambers ARPS31-May-2016 21:23
Was the other parent bringing up the rear, to make sure no one gets lost ?
Johnny JAG31-May-2016 20:22
That's quite a brood

What a big family, and a great capture of them. Seems sort of risky for the babies to be so far spread out like that.
