April 26

Aquatic Center Park, Sugar Land, Texas

2016 Black Vulture Pair has arrived.
Every year, a pair of vultures nest just outside of our office. We get to watch the babies grow up.
Then they all fly away at the end of the summer.
Last year, the female vulture was killed on a power line (not this one) and we were afraid the male wouldn't pair up and come back.
But he did and he has a new wife.
Below is a photo of Gus, last year's baby. He was fledging. Harrowing time for me.
Dogs and traffic and kids in the park are dangers. But Gus survived and hopefully he's starting a family somewhere right now.

Fantastic shot and such a sweet story. I remember Gus. Awesome in black and white. V

That's a heck of a place to call home.
It makes for a great photojournalistic story though!

More than a little interesting. Very good notes and two fine photos. Vote.

A fortunate shot, Lynn...I love those baby pin feathers in detail.

I'm glad they've returned, and maybe Gus will too! Excellent composition and silhouettes in the top picture, and Gus is just too precious in the bottom. V.
