Jacana spinosa
One of the benefits from spending extra time watching a bird is that you sometimes get some glimpses into their lives. This family of Northern Janacas provided LOTS of neat photo opps as they walked around on the lily pads foraging. While we watched a Green Heron flew in near the chicks and they immediately ran underneath the adult and tucked in out of sight. The only thing you could see of them was their little legs poking out from under the adult. After a few minutes one of the little ones stuck its head out from under the adult’s wing to see if the coast was clear. I thought it made for a fantastic photo.
