Mogo Zoo, South Coast, NSW

I mentioned in yesterday's shot where I've been for the last couple of weeks, and will endeavour to catch up with everybody Real Soon Now.

On the second full day of the long weekend break we headed further south from Kangaroo Valley, about two hours on toward Mogo Zoo. That's a privately owned zoo just south of Batemans Bay in the old gold mining township of Mogo.

The zoo isn't one of the largest ones you'll come across but it has plenty of diversity and activities, albeit at a price; but it's hard to begrudge supporting a place that clearly cares well for the animals.

For the last part of the day we had an animal encounter lined up with a couple of different Lemur groups on one of the primate islands. And as you would expect... for the first time ever my Olympus' battery failed to see me through the day. Just before departing on the cruise it died. Time to head to the camera shop for a backup on Tuesday.

But that was in the future at this time. This Sumatran Tiger was rather more cooperative than a certain other large cat that I could name when it comes to photography. The down side of course is that puss is on the other side of a cage (actually that may be an upside), which obstructs the shot somewhat. With the focal length, f stop and distance used most of the fence has been reduced to a mild blur here and there, and even some of that I was able to knock out by judicious tweaking of contrast via Levels. Obviously the shot isn't as clear as I'd like... but upon reflection I think I'd rather that puss stay over there.

I already have enough of a problem with a large, striped feline trying to hit me up for her breafass at 03:30 in the a.m.

All things considered I was pretty pleased with the 40-150's performance here.

I think your cat acts in his aloof ways whenever you pull out the camera- as does ours-

I think the lens does a great job. Wouldn't want to get too close to him. Great detail and very sharp. V

I think it's just as well there was a fence between you, giving that Tiger here is licking his lips.
