Dear Mr. Searl,
Just ran across this site moments ago. I was hunting information about the American Red Cross that was located in Liege, Belgium in 1944 - 1945. My mother is Belgiun and worked at the Red Cross serving coffee and donuts to the GI's and one of those GI's was my father. Mom and Dad fell in love. They wrote letters back and forth for a year and half before she came to Louisiana and married June 6, 1947. Anyway, we lost Dad to Parkinson's dieases in 2002. Mom is now 89 in failing health after a stroke four years ago. This evening, I was just researching the web for possible pictures of the Red Cross in Liege. E have aces pictures of her ther but I was hoping to find more. I have relatives in Belgium and have been there four times. I found my wife there too but her family moved there after the war. My wife's sister lives about two miles from the Malmady. I have been to Eupen, two American cemeteries, and other various sites. One site was at Asch ( now called AS) There was an American airfield there called "Y-29" My Dad was stationed there from about October 1944 till March 1945. He was an anti-aircraft gunner (M-51... Four 50 Caliber Guns) with the 487th AAA BN attached to the 466 fighter group of the 9th Air Force. This group flew the P 47 Thunderbolts and provided much of the air cover for great soildiers like you. Thank you so much for your service to our country and especially for the liberation of my Belgium family! Contact me anytime.
Sincerely, David P. Cummings
