I headed up to Bush Intercontinental Airport this afternoon early. The official mission was to pick up some friends who were returning from Europe. I decided to go a little early and take some pictures. Well, there was quite a bit of rain and when I initially arrived at the observation area, it was raining pretty hard. So I headed off to a McDonald's to have a soda and follow my friends' flight inbound on FlightAware. If you haven't ever used flightaware.com, you should check it out. It tracks all the flights all over the world in real time so you can see when the flight you are interested in is really going to arrive.
Well, after a while the rain abated so I headed out to the observation point again and got my gear assembled to take pictures. A luck would have it, my friends called saying they were ready for pick up, so I only got one set of photos. This is a United Boeing 737 on final approach. It turned out the observation area was well situated for one of the five runways at the airport. I plan to go back. I also need to do some research about which runways might be preferred for the biggest airplanes. I would like to get an A380 coming in (and going out).
