Founded the Eddy Match Company in 1851 by making matches by hand at his home in Burlington.
Moved his company to Hull, Quebec in 1854;

by 1856 Eddy Match Company was one of the largest match companies in the world and he added other wooden items to his product line.
In 1886, he established the E. B. Eddy Company.

Mayor of Hull, Quebec, 1881 – 1885, 1887 – 1888, 1891 - 1892;

Represented the Ottawa Electoral District in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec, 1871 – 1875;

member of the Hull Community Council from 1878 – 1888.

Administrator of the Canada Central Railway Company.
