DCP

Saratoga Springs, Walt Disney World

DCP begins tomorrow. I was having memories on the journey down here of Kayla waiting on a bus for kindergarten years ago. That moment as a parent when you're saying "okay" get on that bus and go off and have a good day and I'll see you after school. There is an end game in knowing you'll see her at the end of the day. Fast forward to your freshman year in College. Sure she's living in a dorm, but 10 kids from her graduating class were at the same university and she was 98 miles away. Far enough to be away and close enough to be there if we had to. Today, the reality of being 1208 miles, 6 states and working for the Mouse is totally new. New to a city and not a friend in the world, while everything and everyone she knows is in Ohio. Really I am cool with it, but it gives me pause...

Enter in Nicole. While I only met Nicole today in person, I have known her firecracker of a mom, whom was my old boss 13 years ago. It pays to never burn bridges, as I learned her daughter works for Disney and she was gracious enough to not only help us get lodging, had a personal gift for Kayla at the front desk waiting on her and then came over after working all day to spend some time meeting in person and sharing her Disney experience and let Kayla know she's got a friend in Orlando-

As a dad, I love this girl... Leaving is never easy but knowing there is a friendly face, locally just a phone call away is comforting. Not only to me, but to Kayla as well. Nicole-your awesome! Your kindness and knowledge is making her transition to the DCP awesome and for that I am forever grateful.
