The Corvette represents America’s first true sports car. Until the early 60’s a sports car usually meant a foreign import. Now a cult car in its own right, the Corvette was introduced in 1953 as the first production car build a have a fiberglass body. Initial sales however were very disappointing so much so that the manufacture was almost abandoned in 1955. Subsequent redesigns and upgrading saved the marque indeed they are still being made to this day.
