FZ-DN 272

In the mighty glare of Alpha Centauri (just outside the field at the left side...) lies the planetary nebula cataloged as Hen 2-111 or FZ-DN 272.
It is estimated to be about 7,800 light-years away.
FZ-DN 272 is the gaseous shroud of a dying star, the nebula's brighter core and fainter halo of reddish ionized gas spans about twenty light-years.
Farther right are two notable open clusters of stars, the compact Pismis 19 also nearly 8,000 light-years away whose light is reddened by intervening dust, and the looser, closer NGC 5617.(APOD)

Wow this might be my favourite of your southern images if I had a favourite! I'm also a little biased as Hen 2-111 is one of many southern PN I really like and find interesting. It is quite unique that it is a 30 arcsecond planetary nebula with a 10 arcminute halo! I think this is the fourth amateur image of this obscure nebula and it is completely distinct and individual to the others. However I'm confused about the designation of FZ-DN 272, this doesn't appear in any professional databases or anywhere else. Also this image proves the amazing advantage of very dark skies, none of the other images show the background nebulosity, which might be uncatalogued! There are actually lots of other objects in your image! The round shell above and to the left of Hen 2-111 near the left edge of the image is catalogued as G315.4-0.3, a supernova remnant. The round bubble in front of NGC 5617 is the planetary nebula candidate PN G314.6-00.1, which might actually be a member of the cluster! Finally, the large loose open cluster to the south of Pismis 19 is Lynga 2.
