Ruins of Frankenstein Castle

Frankenstein, Germany

Not far from where we live, the imposing, almost ghostly, ruins of a fortress overlook the village of Frankenstein.

The castle’s foundation was started in 1100. It was named for the Frankenstein family, which died out in the 14th century.
It’s not clear when the castle was destroyed, but it was in ruins by the mid-1500s,

What an interesting structure. A stunning image, you really captured the cheerless and dreary atmosphere.

Moody and gaunt. It seems to be inhabited by at least one tree.

Image the history that this castle has been part of. Even in ruins it is still stately. Great capture from a very good angle and location. Very impressive and I like how you framed one side with the tree. Voted

If it's in this state after being in ruins for 500 years then that is testament to the builders. Great photo from this perspective. I like it in the snow and with this lighting as it enhances the impact. "V"
