Real Cornbread

York, SC

Real cornbread has no sugar.
Real cornbread has no flour.
Real cornbread has medium grind cornmeal, baking soda, eggs, buttermilk and bacon fat and is cooked in a cast iron skillet.
Real cornbread tastes like corn, not cake!

Ohhhh that looks so good! My mother made it this way! My dad liked it well done, read, almost burnt. Sometimes when he was elsewhere she would make us a batch not over cooked. My brothers and I would eat it all in one sitting...with lots of butter of course.

Amen...Lost art, lost flavor! Gotta be baked in the cast iron.
