False sphinx caterpillar (Pheosia rimosa), #7922

Reveler Conservation Area

On a small poplar sapling. To me, this caterpillar looks as if made of porcelain. It is called a false sphinx because it has the 'horn' on the rear end which is a hallmark of most sphinx caterpillars. This one, however, is in the Notodontidae family.

Interesting that it has a horn too and it does have a very silky texture. V.
