31st August 2014 - the last day of summer

These tomatoes are the first we’ve harvested from the plants that DM planted while I was drowning in work earlier this year. There isn’t a massive crop and there are no more red at the moment but boy it’s good to have something that has been grown here again after two long years of nothing. We've picked them on the last day of summer according to the Mingay calender. Tomorrow, the 1st September, is the start of autumn if we divide the year down into four equal chunks of three months.

There is no doubt that tomatoes grown at home and eaten without refrigeration are the best tomatoes you can ever eat. I fact, there is little better than the fragrance of tomato plant when you walk into the greenhouse and pluck them from the vine. I’m looking forward to sampling these ones very soon…

Gorgeous capture of your homegrown tomatoes! I agree with you, there's nothing tastier in the world! :)
.....my hubby has picked 196 pounds of tomatoes so far this summer. I'm overwhelmed by them!
