The Last Laugh?

This Great Blue Heron at Delta Ponds seems to be laughing about something. That bulge in its neck indicate it just found dinner. It caught something there, but I don't know what it was. If you look close you will see somthing in its beak! The light coming through its beak caught my eye. Looks like one healthy bird!

I didn't realize that the lower mandible is pouch-like, smaller but similar to a pelican.

I like the framing of the lily pads, the light shining through the beak gives a splash of colour. Is that a frog's leg I see disappearing down the Heron's throat?
John Ewing01-Sep-2014 08:18
Laughing or just wondering if it'll manage to swallow before it chokes?

I'm sure these dang birds don't appreciate how much attention you pay them and the wonderful press they get.
