My Story about the Sarcophagus

The Discovery of King Tut

Exhibition Premier in Kansas City.

This sarcophagus - at the newest traveling King Tut exhibition - is a replica. http://www.unionstation.org/tut/

However, I have also photographed the ORIGINAL Sarcophagus that holds King Tut's mummy in Egypt's the Valley of the Kings.
The authentic sarcophagus in Egypt has never left the Valley of the Kings.
Therefore, only those who have been inside Tutankhamun's tomb have ever seen King Tut's original sarcophagus.

I was very lucky the one day to be only one of three people inside Tutankhamun's real tomb.
It was almost like being back in Howard Carter's Day...

That may be why this item was my favorite of this "Discovery of King Tut" exhibition.
My photos of the authentic sarcophagus are on film.

Unlike today, I could do all the photography that I wanted in the Valley of the Kings without restrictions.
Well, except for no flash. How I wish the high ISO technology of modern cameras had been available back then.
Film was great, but things certainly are easier now.
The lighting inside the Tutankhamun's actual tomb wasn't as bright as the exhibition hall.
The mood inside King Tut's real tomb also was entirely different. Obviously...

My exploration inside Tutankhamun's and other Valley of the King's original burial chambers left memories to last a lifetime.
And that is why this replica is my favorite item in The Discovery of King Tut traveling exhibition.

It's a lovely image, Liz, with effective lighting to highlight the piece. I enjoyed reading your story of why this image is so special to you too.
