The "white dot" is a mark I placed in another photo that shows
from a distance where I was when I took this picture.
This was my turn-around point of a long hike in Moab's Behind the Rocks. What started out as an out-and-back hike turned into a loop when I discovered a way to descend into a neighboring canyon that I had thought inaccessible. Google Earth imagery does not reveal that accessibility, so finding it was a pleasant surprise. That imagery also did not show that getting through a cliff lower down would be a challenge. But it all worked out.
I began hiking at the mouth of Pritchett Canyon at 7:20 a.m., was fooled into thinking I discovered a petroglyph (another photo), rested here from 2:45 - 3 p.m., and got back to my car at 6:30 p.m. It was a long but satisfying day. I encountered only one other person all day---a runner who passed me in Pritchett Canyon early in the hike.
The red fluid is Powerade Zero, fruit punch flavor. Believe it or not, during this break I received a phone message, but the wind was so noisy that I could not understand what was being said. Joe Tripod, who supported my camera for this photo, was well-braced to withstand the wind.
