This view looks northeast from the parking lot for Delicate Arch Viewpoint in Arches National Park. My interest was not in the viewpoint, but it the white-topped ridge having three knobs. For a few years it had called to me and this day I answered the call.
Naturally my desire was to reach the highest possible point allowed by my fear of heights. The area between the knobs looked cool, so I hoped to get that far. The only problem was that earlier views with binoculars gave me the impression that the rock in front of the largest knob was too steep to negotiate. There was only one way to find out.
Fortune smiled on me---the rock was not steep and the going was fairly easy, though exposed at one point. The gusty wind was ferocious, forcing me to wait for a lull to make a rising traverse around the big knob. The point I reached is at the center of this Wikimapia aerial view.
Later, while hiking around the far end of the ridge, I discovered signs of old mining activity. It was a good day.
