Between Avenida de Alfonso VIII and Puerta del Sol which gives access to the walled city of Plasencia is the Equestrian Monument dedicated to Alfonso VIII. Stands this statue in honor of the founder of the city of Plasencia, called King Alfonso VIII of Castile or the "Noble". He founded the city of Plasencia in order to unify the nobility they initially built for defensive purposes against Arab threats. After getting together the Kingdoms of Portugal, Navarre, Castile, Leon and Aragon began the Christian reconquest. Once fulfilled its objectives, as usual, the desire of conquest took Alfonso VIII to break pacts with alliea kingdoms to proceed to their individual achievements and increase their empire. In short ... a king of that was unreliable since signed agreements at your convenience with both Arabs and Christians
