One of My Biggest Peeves

This is a Shakespeare PL-259 "Center Pin" VHF connector. The ONLY thing they do easily is FAIL!!!

I replace more of this terminal than just about any failed terminal on a boat.

Someday someone is going to die because one of these crappy "easy to install" connectors failed to allow a VHF transmission.. Arghhhhh.....

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Factory UHF connector (and all UHF connectors for that matter) are terrible!

Weak ground connection, poor construction, zero strain relief and never waterproof. If you're not a ham radio person and into replacing the UHF connector and jack on the radio with N Type or TNC you can at least tightly wrap the connector in self-vulcanizing tape. Scotch 23.

Why do they fail regularly. I mean what is the weak point? Whats the proper way to install the plug? BTW cant believe how many fails are on our existing sailboat :-(
