Hi DeeDee. This is undoubtedly the same bird seen earlier this year at Upper Newport Bay, as a second-year bird. "SY" birds show a mix of juvenile (i.e.,white) and adult (blue-gray) feathers. During the summer/fall molt of their second year, they will gradually replace their remaining juvenal plumage with adult plumage. Your photo nicely shows an apparent retained juvenal (all white) secondary feather in its right wing. Nice image, and thanks for sharing this. -Doug Willick
