a neolithic enclosure, possibly studied more than an any other but coming to no particular conclusion except more recent re-branding as bronze age. The main gateway slightly to right of centre in the near wall and the most striking hut at the centre.
Leading from the walls up to Hookney Tor is an impressive walkway fully paved with large stone slabs. There is a similar one down to the road. Although there has evidently been modern tidying up (including provision for water run-off), I can find no explanation of why these mammoth stone moving operations were carried out. They do not seem to correspond to mining tracks nor relate to the main entrance to the pound.
