V-Drum Sander - 25 - Hook on Drum w Loop Sandpaper on Top

Pearland, Texas

Here the last of the sandpaper is about to be adhered to the drum. The hook and loop system is simply great :-)

I used a leather trimming knife to cut off the excess at both ends of the drum.

If you look closely at the box - top left corner - you can see that I've cut some shim stock to raise the top of the box all around. I did this for a couple of reasons. First, it raised the top to the right level for the drum with the 120 grit sandpaper on it. Second, raising the top of the box cleared the tops of the 2 pillow block bearing which were interfering with the top. It was either use a shim all the way around the box or cut out the underside of the top as the YouTube maker did. Shims are easier, and they solved 2 problems in one blow ;-)

Hindsight is always 20/20, and it always helps to have dumb luck too ;-) The width dimension of the stock red oak board turned out to be the perfect dimension. It was low enough to allow the pillow block bearings to just clear the top, and using a couple of adjusting screws will eliminate the need for shims - couldn't ask for more! Actually, all things considered, it turned out pretty good :-) I am tickled pink with it.
