Blenheim Palace is an “English Baroque
style” residence situated in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England, not far from
the university town of Oxford. King Alfred’s victory at the battle of Eđandun
(see yesterday’s almost daily email) was supposedly rewarded with a white
horse whereas John Churchill (1st Duke of Marlborough) was gifted (by a
“grateful nation”) this country house for a military triumph over the French
and Bavarians at the Battle of Blenheim, on the thirteenth of August 1704.
