#1 (tie) Ghost Cat
by KChristian

The FujiFilm IS-1 does not have an Infrared cutoff filter like most digital cameras, so it is highly sensitive to IR. For this image, I used an IR-72 filter to filter out most of the visible light and then converted the resulting image to black and white. I also used a Topaz Clean filter to achieve the final effect.

FujiFilm IS-1 ,28-300mm (equivalent)
1/350s f/4.5 at 6.2mm iso200 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Thanks, Gerald. if you'd really like to try infrared photography, take a look athttp://photo.tutsplus.com/tutorials/shooting/an-in-depth-guide-to-infrared-photography-setup-and-capture. I found this with with a Google search, so don't know how good the article is, but at least it's a start. With most cameras you can do some limited IR, but you have to use really long exposures, even in bright sunlight. - Ken

The white of the cat makes it stand out well against the darker background. Me too would like to do some IR experiments if I had this camera. -Gerald

As I suspected, that's outstanding editing work. Paul

Oh wow, the thumbnail did this no justice. This is very whimsical.

Thanks, all.

Traveller: Later today I will post a copy of the image straight out of the camera before it was processed, if you are interested.

Peter: The camera was actually placed on the ground with the lens pointing up slightly. Fortunately, the camera has a tilt view screen which helped with composition (although it was still difficult to see in the daylight).

K: You are correct ... there is a wide range of tones in the image. But, I thought that the contrast between the white cat and the much darker background might meet the requirements of the contest.

Car629: Thanks so much for your kind words!

The way you have processed this photograph gives it the feeling of surrealism, the more I look at it the stranger it gets!

Nicely done. Car629

I like the photograph a lot, the B&W graduality is excellent. The only thing is that it does not look for me 'contrasty', but that may be very subjective.

Very interesting effect, with the perspective as well as the infrared. It looks a bit like a giant ghost cat!
