On 23 Jan 2013 the Mittagong Brigade was part of a Strike Team (group of five crews and fire fighting appliances) which were sent to the hills around the Wyangala Dam to fight a ferocious wildfire probably started by a lightning strike. This fire was offically known as the "Decca fire". I was part of the Mittagong crew which spent 26 hours away on this job.
I photographed this image from the Mittagong truck. Although converted to grayscale, I hope this image conveys how bleak and tough was the terrain in that area, particularly after the fire had passed. I will be posting more images from this fire.
