In a strange and sad period of five days, we have lost a total of 5 animals from our jungle family, some of which we share with our closest neighbors and friends, Emily & Gary.
3 cats killed on the country highway that fronts our properties, and 1 died from an unknown illness. They were members of our feral colonies that we have trapped and
fixed and returned to our properties, becoming our outdoor companions and gardening buddies. The fifth was Birt, our 25 year old Cockatiel, who died of old age, thankfully.
We can care for them and love them and give them acres to explore, but we cannot keep them from the dangers of the road, or the curiosity that lures them there.
It is the gamble of country life for a feral cat, but never have this many been claimed in such a short period of time. Hopefully the cloud of bad luck has passed.
Here's to their little animal spirits, released with gratitude for the joy they have brought to our lives...
RIP: Buster, Cali, Ginseng, Rusty, and Birt.
With mutual condolences to Emily & Gary, whose love for these wild creatures knows no bounds...
