Winslow Homer

Born in the Boston area, Homer spent his young life under the influence of his mother who was a gifted watercolorist. He was mostly a self taught artist who resisted instruction from the masters of the day. After years of developing his style, he became a popular illustrator for the days famous magazines and periodicals. He never taught in a school or privately, but his work influenced a future generation of painters
