Handicapped with a genetic order from birth, Lautrec painted his way to success around the areas of Montmartre and Paris. A lot of his subjects were the prostitutes and dance hall girls of the city. He was named the official artist in residence at the famous Moulin Rouge. He became well known for his theater poster work. In Paris he was friends with Vincent Van Gough. He was also one of the first painters to make use of the newly invented photographic camera.
